LopArt DUO is a program for the creation of images that takes its inspiration from traditional tools for drawing and painting, and that also includes functions for interactive communication. The DUO function enables you to create artworks with a partner anywhere in the world, simultaneously, on the same drawing board. The only requirement is that both have LopArt DUO, as well as access to the Internet. The diffusions functions enables the sending of images by e-mail and their archiving in the LopArt Museum on the web site www.lopartduo.net.
LopArt Duo inspires confidence in students and helps them understand and use technology through Art while integrating math science, history, anthropology, and philosophy. It does increases student's proficiency in the 21st century and encourages inter-group projects locally and/or internationally, a key to break in the gap between all students.
In a world where 1 out of 3 students will be working in an artistic workplace and only 47% of US schools offer Visual Art, we need to do better for American student. "The Arts help students become more tenacious, team-oriented problem solver who are confident and able to think creatively. These qualities can be especially important in improving learning among students from economically disadvantaged circumstances, or students with special needs and learning disabilities"1. LopArt Duo is easy enough to be used by kindergarten, special need students, and English Language Learners, as the program is entirely icon based. But also powerful enough to be use by high school students and higher ed as the drawing, animation and film features are developed enough to really enhance graphic designs and visual art projects.
Because of the importance of the art in a well-rounded curriculum, the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) plans to undertake a survey to assess the conditions of arts education in grade K-12. Be Ready! The time is now to add the arts in your curriculum!
The Drawing Workshop includes a color palette (2) as well as a greyscale palette (1). Under the colors is located the half-tone palette (3). Half-tones are combinations of the two last selected colors. There is a variety of half-tones based on different motifs and nuances, from a simple gradient to leopard spots. Half-tones can be coupled with all other tools in the Workshop. You thus have access to millions of color combinations. The water drop tool (4) located at the top right of the half-tone palette allows you to extend or smear colors just as you would rub a pastel with your finger or dilute ink with water. As for the bottom left box in the half-tone palette, it represents the intermediary color (5) between the two last colors selected.
- The texture palette lets you choose the shape of your stroke. Clicking the + symbol opens the Personal Texture Creation Workshop, thus allowing for an infinite range of drawing tools. To the right of the texture palette are located the transparency tool, a choice of stroke tips (squared, rouded, or calligraphic), and a stroke thickness bar.
- To erase a part of you’re artwork, draw over it using either white color or the background color; you can also click to undo the last drawn stroke(s).
- The stroke movements console enables you to animate each of your strokes. Assign a movement to a stroke immediately after having drawn it or by selecting it later. There are four types of movements that can be combined with each other: reeling (1), wriggling (2), pulsation (3), and undulation (4).
The Portfolio is the central section of LopArt DUO. It always contains a blank page (top left corner) that enables you to start a new drawing. The artworks are presented side by side as they are created. The Portfolio can contain as much as 2000 images. Through the Portfolio, you have access to creation, diffusion, and manipulation functions related to your works.
Exporting an Artwork
If you wish to save an Artwork to your computer, you can do so in five formats:
- JPEG : this format allows you to save an image that does not take much space on your hardrive.
- LOP : this format is particular to LopArt. It allows you to transfer an artwork from one LopArt application to another, while preserving its history of strokes, stroke movements, animations, and the image sequencing that is associated to it.
- Film : this format preserves 200 images of the drawing’s reconstruction in the “Film” folder. These images are in JPEG format and may be exported into a video editing program or an image treatment software to create more customized animations or to view the artwork’s history without the LopArt DUO application. The images are saved in the “Film” folder, right next to the application. Be careful to save them elsewhere on your computer, since they will be overwritten during the next exporting.
- Stroke Movements : saving in this format will export 200 images of a completed artwork with stroke movements in the “Film” folder. These images are in JPEG format and may be exported into a video editing program or an image treatment software to create movies featuring your artwork and its stroke movements.
- Image Sequencing : this type of saving exports 200 images based on your editing to the “Film” folder. These images are in JPEG format and may be exported into a video editing program or an image treatment software to create movies with your editing sequences.
